Under 16 Match Report Vs Cardiff 1/6/07
The bulldog 16s went into the match without big names Remmerswaal, Roach, Turner and Fromberg, so they knew they were in for a tough battle to reinforce 2nd place on the ladder.
The boys seemed to come out in the first quarter on the back foot and stood back and watched the hawks take a 5-3 33 to 2-2 14 lead at the first break.
A little bit of a re-shuffle at quarter time saw a more balanced doggies come out and step it up in the 2nd quarter. The backline worked great and kept the hawks to 3 points in the quarter. The dogs kicked 3 goals to only trail 5-6 36 to 5-4 34 at the main break.
The boys came out in the 3rd quarter intent on being the more physically dominant team in the 3rd quarter and pulled off some bone rattling tackles to have cardiff thinking twice about bending over to pick up the footy. Once again the doggies kept the hawks to 3 points for the quarter whilst kicking 2 goals themselves to lead 7-4 46 to 5-9 39 at the final break.
The doggies came out looking for an arm wrestle till the finish and they got it with the ball going up and down the ground to have everyone watching on the edge of there seats and the coaching staff with heart flutters. Once again the backs held firm and both sides kicked
2 goals for the quarter and the under strength doggies coming out with a nailbiting 5 point win 9-4 58 to 7-11 53 to consolidate 2nd position behind city on the ladder.
Special mention to Nick Brennan for his first game of AFL footy and special thanks to Paul Hunter from the under 14s for backing up for the 2nd week in a row.
