Under a scorching sun with a Heat Advisory issued across Southern Ontario, the Men and Women hosted the High Park Demons at Mohawk Park for Round 8.
The Men after having suffering some tough losses in the last few rounds were eager to have a great kick. With contributions coming from all over the field, the Men kicked in 13 goals. Multiple goal scorers were Paul Lawson (2), Matt McDowall (2), Visser (3). Harley, Justin, Kinga, Bing, and Digits also scored a goal each. Little Nick also had his first goal of his young AFLO career. And with his efforts, got awarded the Best on Ground.
Alan Caroll was awarded the Hard Hat for his inspiring and never-ending hustle in the extremely humid and hot weather.
They ended up defeating the Demons with a score of 13.11.89 to 3.2.20.
The Women took on the Demons for the 3rd time this season. In the first two games against the Demons, the Women have won with very convincing scores, dominating the play. This game proved to be quite the challenge however. Playing with no bench is a challenge the Women are accustomed to, however compounded with the high heat it was going to be a even bigger challenge. In the first quarter, Morgan had to leave the game with an injury leaving the Wildcats with even less options.
The game was extremely close throughout. The Wildcats welcomed the return of Jodie Fluit in her first game this season as she scored 3 goals showing that her kicking form is still as good as ever. Polina also contributed a goal to the score. However it wasn't enough. The Wildcats fall to the Demons by a score of 4.9.33 to 5.9.39. The Women suffer their first loss of the season and drop them to 2nd on the ladder behind the undefeated Etobicoke Kangaroos.
The Hard Hat went to Danielle Comolli who was a work horse on the field, filling in for injured ruck Joanna and making her presence felt everywhere. And the Best on Ground went to Liz who played a stellar game in the back line.
Up next in Round 9, the Men host the Grand River Gargoyles at 12 noon and the Women host the Etobicoke Kangaroos at 2 pm. Come out to Mohawk Park to cheer your club on!
