On this edition of Player Spotlight, we caught up with women's rookie Lise Kiefer. Lise joined the club this year and has been doing extremely well. Awarded the Hard Hat award for her tenacious play in her first OAFL game, this is a player to watch this season.
How did you get involved with the club?
I got involved with the club through Emily mentioning that they were always looking/recruiting people for the team and (to be truthful), I was starting to get a little bored with the winter months and wanted to try something new, which lead me to footy. Emily actually tried to get me out last August, but I made it out this year.
What sports have you played in the past, and how do you think it has helped you make the transition to footy?
I have played numerous sports, although the ones that I have done in the past that have helped me to transition to footy are: soccer, field hockey, and wrestling. Soccer: easily has helped with endurance and team strategy. Field hockey: learning how to back up other players and playing at a consistently fast pace. Wrestling: contact!
After playing in the pre-season tournament in Montreal, and one game in the OAFL, what has been the hardest part about the game to adjust to?
The hardest part of the game to adjust to has been getting in there and learning to shepherd in order to protect other team members.
What would you say to people on the fence about trying out footy?
Try it! You lose nothing by coming out to one of the practices/games. It is a great team environment and a great way to build friendships with new people (potentially people you would have never met on your own time). Even if you didn't want to continue, we will always take fans/cheerleaders for the Wildcats.
