If nothing else, our boys know how to entertain the spectators on a cold day- another absolute nail biter and fantastic to come out with a win against the top team by 9 points.
With Liam celebrating his 50th game for BJFC and Joel winning the toss, we
were ready to start well kicking to the scoring end. Conditions were tricky
and our opponents willing and we had to work hard to get the only goal of
the first quarter through a great snap from Will.
The second quarter was a mirror image with Richmond trying to convert their
opportunities but we tightened up and took a narrow lead into half time.
Like several of our recent games, this was not going to be a shoot out and
we knew that if we could put some scores on the board in the third quarter
we would take some beating. JJJ and Will were able to kick two invaluable
goals and we were a bit unlucky not to get another but took a very hard
earned 16 point into the last quarter.
In a very similar situation to the previous we were magnificent in the last
quarter, playing (almost) perfectly to plan in maintaining possession and
slowing down the tempo of the game and we deserved the outcome that we
enjoyed. Before talking about our best players, I would like to thank the
players who we rotated off the ground in the 2nd half in order to maintain
our best match ups in quarters in which they would have expected to play the
whole quarter. Their acceptance of team decisions to achieve a team result
was greatly appreciated.
Biggsy, Oliver and Tom were tireless in tough conditions, James, Joel and
Frankie provided calmness and skills when we most needed them and JJJ
continued to provide a target. The combination of Darcy and Jackson in the
ruck is working well and giving us domination in these contests.
Well done to all and we now go into the rematch against North Brunswick with some
confidence to take the challenge up to them.
