For the third game in a row, our team provided a thriller coming from behind to fall five points short of Kew Rovers.
Following a recent trend, we were sluggish early and trailed 5.2 to no score early in the second quarter before regaining our run and teamwork to be back to within 14 points at half time.
Against the stiffening breeze in the third quarter we worked hard but still allowed our opponents with some chances which they happily converted and at three quarter time we were 25 points down with the wind at our back.
We started the last quarter well with a goal straight out of the middle before Kew hit back with a damaging goal. We continued to attack and with more than half a quarter to go, were within 2 goals. Our opponents grimly defended and made every possession difficult for us. We were able to get a late goal but ran out of time and failed to get over the line by less than a goal.
We had many players worthy of mention- Holden was instrumental in the second quarter in setting up three goals by winning contested ball and hand balling to a running team mate. Tom and Ben really worked out in defence as did Ed who played the loose man across back to perfection. Jackson’s ruck work was fantastic, particularly in the final quarter. Joel, Nelson, Oliver , James and Biggsy ran hard and teamed up to move the ball forward throughout the game.
Overall, after quarter time, it was a great effort and hopefully demonstrated to the boys how good they can be when on song. However, we cannot continue to give our opponents a start in the first quarter and that is our challenge over the next few weeks.
