Our round 5 match against North Brunswick proved to be a huge challenge for the group. The opposition were big, strong, skilful and well trained and gave us a reality check on the standard that we can expect to meet.
Having said that, our boys worked hard to man up when the opposition had the ball and create options when we did and I was pleased with the effort throughout four quarters and the fact that we continued to compete.
There were many strong tackles laid, often against larger opponents and a real commitment to teaming up to move the ball forward. Tom, Blake and Darcy were strong down back holding our defence together. Nelson, Joel, and Biggsy were tireless through the midfield and Will was clever up forward creating several scoring opportunities. Well done to Calvin for kicking his first goal and finishing off with a really pleasing final quarter.
Conor and Ben both sustained injuries caused by their commitment to compete and were an inspiration to the team. As I said at the outset, a tough day at the office for us all but if we play like that for the rest of the season we’ll win more than we lose.
