Despite the best efforts of the boys on Saturday it was not meant to be with Grange charging home to record an emphatic 5 goal win at Everton.
The late withdrawal again with an ongoing virus to veteran Andrew Housego diminished the marking power of the Tigers and Grange took full advantage with a 4 goal burst before the Tigers steadied to draw level at quarter time.
Injuries to key players in Nikos Keim and Sam Paterson presented a challenge to the coaching staff however the group managed to settle and then mount another charge and drew level again at 3 quarter time. Shaun Daly managed to shrug aside the Grange taggers and was well supported by Dean Hartley down back. Spencer Greville was also prominent with incisive runs through the middle of the ground.
The match was headed for a dramatic climax but Grange finished the better of the two teams kicking the last 4 goals of the game to run out 32 point winners and clinch 5th spot for the finals.
It was a case of so near but so far again for Mayne who now finish the season with the Magpies at Everton on Saturday.
