Mayne stormed home in the final quarter on Saturday to clinch a valuable win against Noosa ending an 8 year drought against the powerful Sunshine Coast club. In front of a capacity reunion day crowd Mayne kicked 5 goals to 1 with Andrew Housego, Shaun Daly and Sam Paterson leading the charge. Paterson was later awarded the Mick Nolan medal proudly presented by Nettie Nolan who was on hand to witness the Tigers triumph. Nettie delivered an emotional speech, reflecting on Mick's time involved with the Mayne Tigers as a player, coach and father of Ricky, Danny and Dale. She was thrilled with the support she received from the supporters during the day which included the 1973 premiership side.
At one point more than 6 goals behind on the scoreboard, Mayne managed to restructure the lineup in time to find the winning combination. Noosa were relentless and physical as usual and with a few minutes left on the clock the result was hanging in the balance. 16 year old debutant Alex Barnes from Everton Juniors showed a clean set of heels and will remember his first game for some time. In the end though it was a united front in the latter parts of the game combined with a sensational tackling effort which carried the side over the line.
This capped off a wonderful day with both the Ressies and the under 18’s also recording wins to fill the trifecta.
We now face a rejuvenated Coolangatta outfit this Saturday on the Gold Coast.
