A stunning 5 goal opening quarter set up a thrilling 7 point victory for the Tigers against local rivals Grange on Saturday at Hickey Park. Heading into a stiff breeze from the outset the Tigers were never headed and whilst the Gorillas closed to within 2 points late in the day Mayne prevailed against the odds.
A superb tackling effort across the park combined with a united disciplined approach ensured that the Tigers controlled large chunks of the game. The skill level from both sides was tested in the conditions however Spencer Greville, Ben Davies and Matt Jones all displayed excellent ball handling throughout the afternoon.
It was a welcome return to form for Taylor Murtha with 3 goals who reveled playing alongside Caleb Brown who turned in his best game of the year. Tom "Irish" O'Malley was also a fine contributor shutting down the Gorilla's best forward on the day.
Mayne now head home for Saturday's clash with Noosa to be played in front of the 73 premiership side reunion.
