Despite holding a narrow lead at 3 quarter time on Saturday, Mayne were overwhelmed by a 9 goal final quarter blast from the Magpies who ran out 39 point winners at Sherwood. In what was a sometimes brutal affair both sides entertained the crowd with an exhibition of high quality football. A seven goal 3rd quarter surge gave the Tigers a chance of snatching the 4 points however the loss of Jake Magill (broken leg) and Nic Aldridge (hamstring) in the first half proved too much to overcome. The severely depleted midfield battled manfully against all odds with Sam Paterson a powerhouse all day. Liam Burke was busy in his Tigers debut up forward and Jack Collings again threw his body at every contest and also slotted 3 goals. The Magpies small forwards were hard to handle all day with Thompson (7 goals) and 16 year old Hearne (4 goals) dynamic. The focus turns to next week against the Springwood Pumas at home in what is typically a cracking contest between the two clubs.
