Young gun Taylor Murtha continued his rapid rise through the ranks at Tigerland with another impressive display in defence as the Tigers ground out a 10 goal win against a tenacious Coolongatta outfit on Saturday at Everton. In only his third year of senior football Murtha repelled countless Cooly attacks and has made a habit this year of bouncing the ball through half back on his way to setting up the forward line. Murtha, along with Housego and Jones have provided the cornerstone of a much improved Tigers defence this season which had their hands full against a Cooly side spearheaded by Vigus kicking a game high 7 goals.
It took until midway through the last quarter for the home side to wrest control of the game away from a tiring Blues line up with the midfield of Patterson and Stevenson racking up plenty of touches. Full credit must go to the Blues who had a number of players backing up from the reserves and one young fella who carved up the 18s, reserves and seniors thoughout the afternoon.
The Tigers now travel down the highway on Saturday to try and break the Burleigh ground hoodoo having never won at Christine Avenue since joining the PHC.
