The Mayne Tigers' roar isn't about to become a whimper despite the results not going their way so far this season.
While the seniors aren't enjoying success, there have still been plenty of positive stories coming out of the club of late. The under-18s have chalked up five wins this season, indicating better times ahead for the ailing Gaythorne-based club, according to Tigers president Richard Fell. "We've just started to get a few kids from Everton juniors into the 18s and that gets the Everton and Mayne juniors each feeding into the 18s ... so in the next two to three years time it looks pretty good," he said.
Fell said there was also good news off the field, with players and fans set to have improved facilities this year. "With the grant Everton should be able to fit out the change rooms and we have half of the carpark bitumened." Fell said despite the disappointing seniors results, the team had been competitive all season and encouraging new players into the line-up. He said it was an inspiration for players and supporters who had been through many highs and lows with the club in past years. "It's absolutely fantastic and it's been led by the older guys like Andrew Housego and Jimmy Gillett, our co-captains," Fell said.
