Reunion dates and teams – 1981 Under 19s and 1961 Senior premiership teams On June 4th Mayne Tigers are holding a reunion for two of their Premiership winning teams. The 1961 won the Premiership by beating Coorparoo 13-18-96 to 11-14-80. Time has caught up with some of the team and the administration of 1962 but these are the team members that pulled on a Mayne jersey that day. Ron Murray, Bob Fenton, Bill Goosetry, Noel Radke, Ray McMillan, Warren Mitchell, Arthur Page, Ian Buchanan, Don Barber, Alan Skuse, Gordon Bowman (Captain-coach), Noel Best, Ian Lyons (dec), Barry Spring, Alex McGill (dec), John Ware, John Christie (dec), Brian Warlow, Barry Coghill and Don Radcliffe. Team management was Jack Alick President – dec), Jack Godfrey (Secretary - dec), Nev Harrison (Trainer – dec), Keith Anderson (Trainer).
20 years later and 30 years ago the Tigers Under 19 team won their Premiership. Of course these boys are no longer young but most are still young at heart. Some of this team went on to have stellar careers in Queensland and interstate. This is the team and support staff: Daryl Gould (Manager), Doug Hill (Runner), Mark McGill, Wally Lago, Stephen Dean, Brent Tapp, Andrew McIntosh, Peter Moore, Peter Buckley, Tony Monson, Simon Jeffery, Graeme Wallace, Paul McIntosh, Greg Kingston (Assistant-coach), Greg Curry (Assistant-manager), Malcolm Christie, Leigh Gould, Scott Corbett, Noel Best (President), Mick Glover (Captain), Ken Hayes (Coach – dec), Brad Murphy, Andrew Mason, Frank Colledge, John Perez, Gavin Gould (Runner), Jeff Bell, Paul Bourke, Warren Keyes and Carl Herbert. We hope that as many of these two teams can get to Everton for our home match against Western Magpies (Sherwood) as possible. The reunion will start at 12 noon with drinks and nibbles – reminiscing starts straight after the first sip!! We have not got all of the contact details for these two teams, so if you still in touch with a teammate – let him know and then contact the Club (Dick Fell for 1961 and Graeme Wallace for 1981) with the details please.
Difficult start to the 2011 season for the Tigers Three games gone and no win on the board makes it look like a difficult start for the 2011 season. But as the pundits say “there are lots of positives”. So the Tigers are looking forward to the next games on the schedule with optimism. The difficulties are in the season-ending injuries to 2 or 3 players who were key members of the squad and the injuries keeping some other key players out of the team at the moment. It is a young team , with a young Player-coach in Luke Faulkner. He has however developed a good game plan that the team understands and this will hold the Tigers in good stead in the coming weeks. The bounce back will start at the weekend with our game at Palm Beach-Currumbin, followed by Maroochy-Northshore and a season defining game against table-topping Wilston-Grange. The Reserves got off to a bright start with a first up win but have found the going tougher in the past two outings. Again they look forward with optimism to their next few matches. This is a young team – only 3 players over 25 and the rest with the enthusiasm of youth coursing through their veins. Anything is possible!! Our Under 18 team is doing quite well with two wins from their 4 starts and a narrow loss. The team is coming together after a slow start and looks like going on to be one of the better teams in the Northern Conference.
