Overnight rain made the ground heavy yet underdogs Bunyip jumped to a 2 goal lead early. NNG fought back with the scores level at the first change. With only 18 players and no bench the doggies were under pressure to run out the game. It showed with NNG kicking 2 goals to nil in the second quarter. The 3rd quarter saw Bunyip outrun and apply intense pressure on their more fancied rivals. Bunyip kicked 2 majors, one of them from first gamer Phil Plantholt from Germany who ran down a NNG player and kicked the penalty between the big sticks like he was born to it! The last change had the Dogs just in front, but fullback Matt O'Halloran copped a broken nose and Bunyip were down to 17 players. NNG were awarded 3 free kicks all in front of goal, which in the end was the difference, with NNG running out winners by13 points
