Official Match Report
After calling last play at Croydon's end after 2 corners, the referee allowed the game to continue past 70 minutes which then allowed Glen Waverley to score. The Croydon Players heard the referee call last play on the last corner as full time has elapsed so were expecting the full time whistle to blow. The referee claimed there was 8 seconds left in the half when Glen Waverley scored, even though the ball went out of bounds between the last Croydon corner, his call of last play and Glen Waverley's goal after full time.GWSC comments: The last 2 corners were at the Glen Waverley goal and we scored in a counterattack just before the final whistle. At the end of the game, we had '70' for the goal scored on the timesheet, and the other team manager said they had it at 71/72. We made the amendment but then checked in with the referee and he said he had the goal with 8sec left on the clock, and said to put '70' as the time the goal was scored. This was then reflected in the team sheet and signed on by all parties.
The Corners referred to by Croydon were at the Croydon Goals - this is where the Referee said last play (at the first Corner) It was at this time that both team managers / coaches noted there was less than a minute of play left. SO after the 70 minutes, the play was allowed to go form the Croydon end to the Glen Waverley end. The last 2 Glen Waverley plays were after 70 minutes.
