Transition between Junior and Senior Football
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
This document is a memorandum of understanding between the South Mandurah Football and Netball Club (SMFC) and the South Mandurah Junior Football Club (SMJFC). The MOU has been produced to formulate an effective transition of junior footballers into the senior environment, specifically year 11 and 12 SMJFC footballers into the SMFC Colts program.
OBJECTIVES
- The Presidents of both clubs will work together through open communication to share resources and assist younger players in their transition from junior to senior footy.
- Both clubs will be dedicated in working together to promote the clubs and to encourage more footy players living within the South Mandurah area to play at South Mandurah rather than travelling outside of our local clubs to play elsewhere.
- All players under the age of 18 (unless otherwise agreed between Club Presidents) will register for football at SMJFC, regardless of whether they have been selected or targeted to play senior football or not. Players who are selected for senior football will be issued with player permits as negotiated between the players’ relevant SMJFC and SMFC coaches.
- The general rule of transition into senior football will be that year 12 players will be given priority access to senior club football if their skills base allows. Year 11 players will have similar priority to senior club football if they are playing in representative football sides (wafl or state) at Colts level or above. Year 11 club footballers who do not play representative football will be given access to senior club football if their club coach and the senior club coach deem them to possess the skills to warrant selection or experience in a senior club team.
- At the end of the season, a calculation of the number of senior games a junior player has played in, will be undertaken by SMFC and provided to SMJFC. A net appropriation of players fees will then be prepared, taking into account players levies and other costs that must be paid in full by SMJFC. Should a junior player play games for both clubs in the same weekend, an appropriate cost share will be applied.
- SMJFC will encourage appropriate youth players to become involved and train on occasion with SMFC. SMFC will encourage senior players to become actively involved and assist younger players with their development.
- Each club will consider the other club when making important decisions that may affect the other, or changes to use of the shared clubrooms / facilities, and will endeavour to advise the other club as soon as possible.
- This MOU can only be altered by agreement of the Presidents of both clubs.
