Fact Sheet

Competition Dates Sunday 22 - Friday 27 October 2006

Draw A draw will be available on-line at the beginning of October.

Maximum Numbers per team Any number of players may register to play in a team. However, only 12 players are able to participate in any one game. These players may substitute on and off the court any number of times. See rules section below.

Umpires All teams must provide a qualified umpire, with a current All Australia Netball Association AA, A, B or C grade badge. Due to the few umpires that the Alice Springs Netball Association have, we are unable to provide umpires for the visiting teams. If you have any other netball umpires wishing to umpire, encourage them to register and be part of the Games. We always need umpires!! The umpires will be allocated prior to the Games and included in the draw online. The allocation will be up until the Wednesday night of competition after that, the umpires coordinator allocates umpires.

Hours played in the day The netball competition comprises a round robin. Netball starts nightly at 6pm and continues through until 11pm. Some nights may finish earlier depending on the number of teams entering the competition.

Times per game Games start on the hour and are made up of four, ten minute quarters. There is 3 minutes between quarter breaks and 5 minutes at half time. Teams play a minimum of one game per night with some divisions playing a combination of one or two games per night depending on the number of teams nominating in that division.

The competition draw will be completed as soon as possible after the closing date for entries. We plan to have the draw on the Alice Springs Masters Games website two weeks before the start of competition. Finals only will be played on the Friday night of competition.

Type of surface The Pat Gallagher Netball Centre consists of 8 fully lit outdoor courts. The surface is a flexible, latexite netball surface.

Divisions There are seven divisions in Netball:

35+ Competitive
35+ Social
35+ Golden Oldies
40+
45+
50+
55+

The 35+ competitive division is for those skilled, serious teams who play together in their local competition and have come to the Alice Springs Masters Games as a team.

The 35+ social division is for those players of various abilities who come together to form a team solely to play in the Alice Springs Masters Games and enjoy the social side of our sport.

The 35+ Golden Oldies division is for those players who enjoy their netball but are not so serious. Your team may be a broad cross section of ages and of varying abilities and experience. The focus of this division is on fun and friendship. There will be scored round robin games only with teams dipping for a "medal" at the medal presentation.

Nominating a division Do you come with the intention of winning every game or is it purely just for fun or is it for a throw and a giggle? If you ask your team this question it may help to decide where you belong in the 35+ divisions.

This Games teams are required to select a first and second preference for a division to play in. Preference for division will be given in order of teams who have registered in full. The purpose behind the selection of two possible playing divisions is to give the organising committee greater flexibility in constructing the competition. Ideally the organising committee will work to accommodate all teams first preferences.

The draw Once nominations have closed the draw will be constructed. Where there is a large number of registrations in a single division then this division will be split alphabetically, to create two or more divisions. Teams will play a round robin and finals within this division.
