PARTNER OF THE WEEK - LOVE THE GAME ROUND

The Western Region Football League is excited to participate in the 2017 Love the Game Round this weekend, following AFL Victoria’s announcement encouraging fans to remember the passion, not the odds.

The round is aimed at educating clubs on creating safe and healthy environments for members to understand the risks involved with the increased normalisation of gambling in the community.

On Saturday, the Yarraville Seddon Eagles will take on North Footscray at Spotswood’s McLean Reserve, with the winner receiving the Love the Game Cup.

REACH WORKSHOP KICKS OFF WITH A BANG

The first workshop in the Rams Reach Community Football Club program was run in the Wyndham Suns club rooms after training on June 20.  Thirty-seven players participated in the workshop facilitated by three Reach trainers. No adults were involved as this program is about young people dealing with young people.

Among other things a survey of participants completed after the session indicated the players were able to better connect with each other and were more open to seeking help from each other and others when required. There was 100% agreement that the key aim of the workshop was to create trust and increased support for each other was 100% successful.

All clubs are able to participate in this program which not only provides these Reach sessions but also cash and in-kind support for the club. Ask your club whether they have inquired about getting involved in this program.

LOCAL BUSINESS SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITY SPORT

All clubs look to local businesses to become sponsors to help ensure our kids get to play footy every week in safe and fun environments.
This week ‘Bounce the Ball’ asked Summer Salvato, Director of Sweeny Estate Agents in Yarraville, and a sponsor of Yarraville Seddon Eagles, among other clubs, why she and other members of the Sweeny group, take on club sponsorships.

In talking to Summer, Yarraville Seddon is lucky to have her branch as a partner as her rationale for supporting the club is all about the players. She sees the support she gives as helping clubs ‘over the financial bumps’ they are faced with, so they can concentrate on helping their players grow in a Life Skill sense, building their self respect and self esteem, teaching the younger ones sportsmanship, how to lose as well as how to win.
Being a mum of a youngster herself she understands the importance of getting out in the fresh air and playing sport, being part of it, indeed belonging to a team is a positive benefit helping kids, youth and adults face up to the social issues that we are faced with today.

No doubt the fact that the Sweeny brand profile is enhanced by their involvement, but it is not the core reason for their involvement.

When asked what makes a good partnership, Summer said that relationships was an import part. She doesn’t believe in handing over funds and that’s it. She and her team will meet and be in contact regularly with their partners to identify opportunities where they can offer further assistance.

All clubs should be on the lookout for sponsors like Summer and the Sweeny Estate Agents. They care about their community, they see footy as more than just learning how to kick and handball, they see it as developing players from a young age to become confident young adults who will positively contribute to the community they live in.
If you have ever wanted to get involved with the wider community, there is no better way than getting involved with your local football club.
