Bulls win the CUP

The Mareeba Bulls turned in arguably on of the best performances seen at Endevour Park with a comprehensive 6-2 win over the previous defending champions the Edge Hil Tigers.

A Wayne Srhoj master class lead the Bulls and the rest of the pack rose with him to turn on a clinic for the travelling Bulls supporters who braved the wet and windy conditions in the first half and hour to see the Mareeba side open up a 3-0 inside the opening 15 minutes.

Srhoj had two assists with Robert Pendenza getting on the end of two and then Paul Ruiz brought down a 50 metre pin point pass from Bulls keeper Julian Madrid to make the score 3-0, before Srhoj again was on hand to put Anthony Mete through on goal to make the score 4-0 with only 30 minutes on the clock.

The Tigers did get one back just before the break with a defected free kick coming of the head of two Mareeba defenders to leave Madrid no chance to bring the scoreline to 4-1 at the break.

If the Tigers had any chance of a miracle comeback they had to be the first team to score, but the second half started the same as the second with the Bulls dominating proceedings only for Tigers custodian Sam Ferguson keeping to the score line the same until Ruiz got his second to make the score 5-1, the Tigers then with nothing to lose through everything forward and were rewarded with a penalty which was converted to bring the game to 5-2, but the Bulls stamped out any form of resistance with Ruiz getting his hatrick and Srhoj his fourth assist of the night to round of the romp.

“It was a pleasure to watch, so happy for the players, they all turned up tonight and effort was outstanding, it was not just the football, the work rate was topshelf and it allowed us to play” Coach Alex Srhoj stated.

“ Wayne was outstanding tonight, but he was not alone, everyone rose another level with him, and not the challenge for us to make sure we stay at that level now” Srhoj stated.

The Tigers will get their chance to revenge this Sunday as the Bulls travel down to Tiger Park, Sunday afternoon in the FNQ Premier league match at 3.30pm.
