This week’s Team in Focus is our Under 16s, led by coach Dave. Despite a rocky start to the season, the young lads have come together in recent weeks to put on a fantastic run of form.

Starting the season with only a few players, the Under 16s endured a horror first game, going down 9-1, but since then, they have gone on to win the last 3 games in a row. Not only have they been winning games, it’s the style in which they’re doing it that has Dave overjoyed.

In their last three fixtures, the 16s have scored an impressive 26 goals. While the coach stressed that it was down to the whole team coming together, he couldn’t help but mention the form of Gus and Leo who have come into the team and helped to turn things around. With Gus getting a mountain of assists, and Leo stepping up with his fair share of the team’s goals, Dave’s hoping that they can continue to help their team scale to new heights.

With the team jumping up on the table, they’ll be looking to other key figures in the squad to help them get as high as they can. One such figure is their captain, Will, one of the most vocals players in the squad, and a talented Centre Back, Will has helped galvanise the team when they’ve needed it. There are other players that have also jumped to the fore this season, Marcus had never played the game before this season, but his improvement has been so impressive it earned him a special mention from his coach.

Despite these individual shout outs, Dave was keen to impress upon me that it was the workload of the entire squad that’s lead them to their recent victories, “Thank you to all the players for training really hard and it’s paying off” he told me, and he’s looking forward to keeping the good times rolling.
