Sandgate over 38's travelled to Pomona last Sunday to play their 2nd game of the season. With 27 players making the trip it was fortunate pomona was short on the day and appreciated some of our players making up the numbers.
The side started as well as the last quarter of their first round defeat by Sunshine Coast.Timmsy was on fire kicking three goals from acute angles and was joined by Logs and Phil both kicking goals. Our defensive group were exceptional, shutting all attacking moves from Pomona and their efforts resulted in keeping Pomona scoreless.Scotty Burgs and Carts were very solid and were supported well by dawsey and Bakxy.
The centre group of Shirls,Fergs and both Sinclairs dominated possessionwith Joey having a blinder.Middy and Shirls both bagged a goal each while Ian took a great mark in front of the sticks and also converted.
The second half started a little slow but with goals from Shirls and new player Joel, they were back in the groove by the third quarter.Dominant leads by Middy playing full forward resulted in 2 goals and a strong bustling run by Willow was also rewarded with 6 points.Steiny also kicked a last quarter goal.
Sandgate finished the game off well once again, and will need to take that attitude to their next game against an always competive Redcliffe next week.
A thankyou to all team mates that gladly game up some of their team playing time to play for Pomona. It ensured a competitive game was held and that all team mates had a decent time on the paddock. Thanks for all the team mates that helped on the day and for Charlie and Toddy for coming up and running water while injuries recovered.
Final Score: Sandgate 14-7-91 Pomona 2-2-14
Cup Winner- Logs
