When the siren sounded to signal three quarter time, the boys were down by 25 points. A set shot (after the siren) saw Parker Fox kick truly which saw us 19 points down at the break. With coach Chris ‘Chops’ Langkau putting the challenge to the team, ‘who wants it the most will win” they came out firing and scored four last quarter goals to nil. Hans Anjou, Parker Fox and Josh Hayes all lifted to set Surrey over the line, and Adam Lowndes booted four for the game and was also named our best. We now have a week off, and progress to the Grand Final to be played at Mitcham on September 8th
The reserves played in Sunday’s cut-throat first semi-final against Kilsyth, a team that beat us a few weeks ago at their home ground. We started smartly Kicking three goals to nil in the first term, with Callum Ternes dominating in the ruck and James Marshall marking strongly up forward. The second quarter tightened up with both teams scoring a goal each, Tom Veitch and Zach Moore were great runners for us, and provided valuable drive out of the centre and across the ground. In the third our defence started to make a significant impact, led by the Tempany brothers Zach and Riley, and were able to hold a 14 point lead at the last change. In the last the forwards really stepped up, Mick Jones and Andrew Rogers marking and goaling we kicked three goals to one to finish 9.6.60 to 4.8.32 and a 28 point win.
This weekend we take on Forest Hill in the preliminary final, midday Saturday at Mitcham Reserve, with the winner to take on East Burwood in the grand final the following week. Get down and support the boys if you can!
