The 19’s set the scene with a rather dominant 63-point win (no goals for the opposition) – Dec Marshall booting four and Cal ‘’SOD’’ (Son of Dave, an icon of Surrey) Garvin our best putting on an absolute clinic on from the wing. The 19s play South Croydon and Whitehorse combined who they beat in round 1 at 10am at home this week.
The reserves were challenged but managed to pull away in the last to take their first win of the year by 21 points, the ‘twin towers’ Harry Lac and Nick Coad combining for four goals a miracle effort with the wet conditions, and Ozzie Anderson pushing his claims for a return to the ‘ones’ with a best-on performance. The reserves will be playing at Surrey against Whitehorse Pioneers at 12:05pm this week.
The scene was set in the main game last week after two wins by the previous Surrey sides. However unfortunately Surrey couldn’t pull through but to the credit of Fair Park they were too strong and came away with a comfortable win. Our shining light was Chris Smith with six goals (The team only kicked 7 demonstrating how large he was).
The seniors this week will also be playing Whitehorse Pioneers at Surrey but at 2:10pm. Congratulations to Callum Ternes and Tom Girvan who both make their senior debut this week.
All teams will observe a minute’s silence before each match to commemorate ANZAC Day and the senior team will wear specially produced jumpers to recognise those that fell in wartime. The jumpers will be for sale after the game with proceeds going to Box Hill RSL.
Unlike last week’s putrid conditions this Saturday will be sunny and around the 22 degree mark so Surrey supporters get down this week to watch firstly the U19s hopefully continue their ominous winning ways, the reserves to hopefully build on last week’s win and come through again and finally the seniors to pull off their first win and get their season going.
Our sponsor of the week is Ross Hunt Real Estate, a community-focussed business that differs from the big corporate real estate agents, providing personal service and real local knowledge. Located on Union Road in Surrey Hills, and specialises in Sales, Rental and Owners Corporations. Phone 9830 4044. This week Ross Hunt is holding a handball competition throughout the senior match. Come down and test your skills and win some great prizes!
Some upcoming events:
Saturday May 19th – Past Player’s Day will be held against East Burwood at home, it’s been some time since our two clubs clashed and the old timers tell me we used to have some great battles. Put it in your diary, is always a great event
Saturday 26th May – Black & White Ball is the event of the year across senior an junior football and netball. Pop it in your diary.
Go Surrey!
