Senior Club Update
Last weekend saw the 19’s up against undefeated division three side Park Orchards on a very windy Saturday morning. Whilst the final score line of 6.5.41 to our 2.4.16 revealed a 25 point loss, we were competitive all day and far from disgraced. In fact these games are great tune ups for the upcoming finals. For Surrey, Tom Girvan, Weshin Zeyto and Tom ‘Mango’ Spangaro were named our best. The boys sit two games clear at the top of the division four ladder with three rounds remaining.
The Reserves, fronted up against Silvan and (with the wind blowing an even stronger gale) pushed hard and managed to hold Silvan scoreless after half time, completing a 15.9.99 to 2.2.14 victory. Returning in their first games for some time, Dec Hauser kicked five and Liam Doidge kicked three along with Nick Coad who also kicked three. Dec was also named our best, along with Andrew Venables. We hold third position on the ladder with a percentage of 247, two games clear of fifth with three games to go.
The senior performed solidly all day under trying conditions. An eight goal half time lead became nine at last change and then on the back of a seven-goal-to-one last quarter meant we recorded a 95 point victory, our seventh for the year. Graeme Johns kicked six with Justin Cuzzupi and Lindsay Gilbee four, and the evergreen Johns was also named our best.
This week the senior side up against Forest Hill welcome back Liam Diodge, Dan Toma and Chris Allen. We’ve had very tight tussles against them over the last two years, winning by a couple of goals in round one at home last year, then falling by two points last year at their ground, we also fell by two points earlier this year also at their ground…so get set for a nail-biter!
