The 19’s never really got going, trailing at every break to go down by 14 points, 6.11.47 to 8.13.61. With their third defeat in a row, they will need to rediscover the early season form to shore up a top-two position and secure the double clance.
Goal Kickers for Surrey were Dec Hauser and Ben Gandolfo with 2 and singles to Danyon Smart and Nate Briscomb (who returned from injury). Our best were Oliver Anderson, Tom Dowling, Tom Badcock, Nick Tanner, Dec Hauser and Liam Mooney.
The seconds took on a powerful Forest Hill side that had six regular ‘ones’ players lining up for them. On a positive note, Surrey had Zac Moore returning after travelling overseas and Luke Jackson returning for his first game for the club in 2015.
Forest Hill came out of the blocks early, and led by five goals at the first change. To the boys’ credit, they kept at it and managed to keep Forest Hill to just two goals in the second quarter, whilst scoring one ourselves. At half time the score was 8.6 to 2.0.
The second half was all Forest Hill, and they ran away winning 23.17.155 to 3.2.20.
Our goal kickers were (in game 299) Willing, Campigli and Mios while our best were McBride, Ramanathan, Cook, Anderson, D. Jones and J. Wright
The seniors ran out under bright sunshine and once again dominated the first 10 minutes of the game without hurting the scoreboard. It wasn’t until the second quarter that we were able to score a major, and were behind 7.3 to 3.4 at half time.
With Simpson moved into defense, the boys came out firing in the third term and outscored Forest Hill two goals to nothing to bring the margin back to just 14 points at three quarter time.
Coach Davidson asked the guys for a final quarter effort against the second-placed Forest Hill that would give them a chance to knock off one of the top sides in the competition. The boys showed plenty of heart, but in the end just couldn’t quite get there.
There were plenty of positives to take out of the game as we head into the final stages of the season. Final scores were Forest Hill 11.11.77 defeated Surrey Park 6.7.43.
Goal Kickers were Liam Doidge 3, Mick Paolini 2 and Dan Toma, while our best were Liam Doidge, Tom Ross, Richard Scott, Scott Dornauf, Mick Paolini and Riley Tempany
