Football has become a significant, though obviously secondary, part of Anzac Day, and has also played a role in returning April 25th to its rightful, almost sacred, status on the Australian calendar.
In recent years The Mitcham Football Club has had the opportunity to participate during The Anzac round to develop a greater understanding of the work the RSL and other Ex-Service organisations do within the community supporting veterans and their families and to promote increased observance of the commemoration of Anzac Day. On Anzac day we neither celebrate nor glorify war – we celebrate the human spirit – the Australian spirit of Anzac. We come together to commemorate the men and women who have served our country over the past 100 years and continue to do so today. In return, it is our moral obligation, to ensure that all our veterans and their family not only receive our thanks but also our support.
