Although it may seem like doom and gloom at the moment, we do have a shining light at the end of the tunnel. It is now unlikely that we will see any local footy in 2020 but when it does return we will be in our brand new home!
The Walker Park development has been a huge job and is almost complete. Once handover occurs in the coming weeks the Mitcham Football & Mitcham Cricket Club’s will have one of the best facilities in the Eastern suburbs.
The clubs have also been lucky enough to secure important funding from Government and sporting bodies to enable us to fit out the facility with state of the art appliances, furniture and fittings.
The finishes on the building both internal & external are pure class. I’d like to thank Andrew Kennedy from 2Construct who has been fantastic throughout this whole process. The Covid 19 situation has made this project even more difficult, having to manage the well being of the tradesman on site everyday whilst being under the pump to complete the project. Both clubs appreciate and understand the difficulties around the project and are just thankful the job will be completed properly.
This project has only made the Football / Cricket relationship grow even more over the last few years. Not many clubs get on as well as we do with our co tenants and that is testament to Alan Fairbairn and his committee, who along with Steve Leslie and several others have been fantastic helping to deliver this new facility.
Lastly I want to thank the other two founding members of the Walker Park Development committee. Luke Smith & Garry Wathen have put years of work into this project and I can’t thank them enough for their dedication over such a long period of time. It has been a battle, but one that is well worth it in the end.
I look forward to our footy and cricket communities being able to enjoy our new home and the facilities that come with it in the very near future. Until then stay safe and look after your friends and family.
