Club update: Coronavirus (Covid 19)
Members and supporters,
On behalf of the Mitcham FC committee I would like to provide our players, staff, members and supporters with an update on how the Coronavirus will continue to affect our football club over an extended period of time.
Whilst the affects on our club are minimal compared to the greater community it is important the club is clear and transparent on the way we will handle the situation going forward. It is also critical the club does everything possible to ensure we can operate viably, if and when we have the opportunity to do so.
The evolving situation around Coronavirus means the landscape will continue to shift on a daily basis. The Mitcham Football Club has and will continue to support the decisions and advice coming from the EFNL board and our government departments.
As COVID-19 continues to shape our current way of life, we hope our club and community can show care and leadership in response. These are unchartered waters for us all. As frustrating as it can be to not have sport at the moment, it's important for us to be guided by the advice we have been given, particularly when it comes to training activities.
We understand that some teams are still looking for ways to continue their training and keep up their fitness levels. Many of our coaches have provided their players with some training activities, which we commend. Further, our junior sector have teamed up with our club sponsor Active EP to produce a range of short instructional exercises focusing on agility, stretching, and core strength. These are designed for individuals to do at home, with little or no equipment required. Our junior club aim to have the first of these online as early as next week.
I must remind you that as a club we do not condone any form of organised team/club training, that breaches Government or the League's current advisory measures. Please refer to the EFNL statement on March 16 and 17 advising we are to "suspend practice matches and training effective immediately". There can be no exceptions to this advice. Families can obviously make their own decisions on the activities of their children, however those choosing to get together for a kick or a run, should not use club channels or social media groups that reference the club, to make these arrangements.
There are currently no practice, fitness, football skills sessions that are sanctioned by the club for any of our Junior or Senior sides. We all desperately want to resume the season as soon as possible, but non-adherence to advice may further delay this. We should keep in mind the broader health concern and consider “at risk” individuals and groups within our own networks, as well as the wider community.
On behalf of our administration I would like to thank and acknowledge our corporate partners and members who have continued to support our club during such challenging times. Your continued support will help ensure the club can continue to function once this situation is resolved. I encorage our members to support our sponsors as much as possible. Our local businesses need us more than ever at the moment. Our club has always been resilient when it comes to looking after our own, and its important now more than ever that this continues.
If you have symptoms of COVID-19 or require any further information, please refer to https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus.
As a club we will continue to provide our members and supporters with content via our social media platforms and website. We will also continue to keep you updated as new information comes to hand.
Stay healthy, safe, and continue to practice good hygiene standards. Regards,
Matt McCubbin
(President, Mitcham Football Club)
