On a fantastic night for netball, Mitcham Black returned to the winners list with a comprehensive 28-12 victory over Norwood, or the 'Woodettes' as they are known. A quick Google search will reveal that whilst Woodette Drive is an existing street in Dunedin, Florida, a 'woodette' as it were is not a real thing. On top of this, Norwood is not an actual suburb in Victoria. In the same way that I don't really know where I'm going with this, they do not have a postcode.
Anyway we looked on from the get-go, with Maka and Georgie up forward making scoring look easier than putting down a hot chocolate on a crisp Winter night. If Cameron Ling or Michael Clarke had been commentating they would have been able to tell us that scoring goals is more effective than not scoring goals, and that's why Mitcham were winning.
Down the other end, Lauren Long Arms, Streetfighter and Elysia were having a field day, intercepting Norwood's forward entries like they were suspicious boogie boards at an Indonesian airport. They are strongly establishing themselves as one of the best defensive units in the league, and look to hold us in good stead moving forward.
If our shooters and defenders were the book ends, we certainly had a great library in the middle. Think perhaps the Lord of the Ring trilogy, or even the Mr. Men and Little Miss series. The Lord of The Ring trio is probably more accurate as there were 3 main performers in the middle; Em, Whiskers and Madz. I have not fact checked to ensure there genuinely are 3 LOTR books, but I was there and can ensure that our girls through the middle caused more havoc than having a water slide as the walkway at a wedding.
Consistency across the court was the real highlight and we look in a good position to make a push for finals getting into the business end of the year. Thanks again to the supporters who made the trip out to watch!
It was a night to forget for Mitcham Yellow with the girls going down by 13 goals to a stong Heathmont Blue. Turnovers proved costly and even after a much better second half, the girls just didn't take any of their opportunities and looked defeated early.
There were some shining lights with Eliza and Sarah strong in defence and helping the girls out with positioning down the other end of the court. And Maddy putting on some good pressure in the second half in the midcourt.
The girls are looking forward to some redemption in next week's game and to getting themselves back to top two before finals.
