WELL DONE to our leadership group who collected and presented Basin Player Mitchell Rule with just on $800 after fracturing to his C6 spinal segment against Ringwood the other week. The Mitcham Football Club wishes Mitchell all the best as he will be off work for a significant period of time, be in a neck brace for a minimum of three months and unlikely to ever play football again
NEXT WEEK we travel to Boronia for what should be 3 very tough games of football and we would love to see a big crowd again out supporting the boys.

Netball Report
Round two rolled around for our netball girls and they wanted to keep that winning feeling going against Boronia and Nunawading respectfully. The black team with only 7 players again, and the heat on Georgia Fairbairn to score a team imposed 40+ goals saw the girls came out of the blocks hard. After Boronia's best player went down with what looked like a serious ankle injury late in the second quarter, the girls were ruthless scoring 13 goals to 4 in the third. Georgia got close, but had a few goals stolen by Annalies Oppawsky in that final term as they ran out 39 to 19 winners. Clearly the highlight for the ladies was the after match treat, cookies made by Jayde Mills.
The Yellow team on the other hand, well fair to say had a shocker. After last weeks win, 3 girls were unavailable and with one of their two fill ins not being able to play on the night came up short against a well drilled Nunawading. The Girls did battle it out but without their key shooters struggled to put any real score board pressure on the lions
Under 19s Coaches Report
Round 5 saw us at home against a determined Basin outfit. The focus was ‘Strength’ in numbers, of mind and over the ball. We were keen to present another four quarter effort, keep our structure and focus on moving the ball efficiently. From the first bounce, we were challenged through the middle and around stoppages, however managed to gain control of the ball through consistent effort and pressure. The boys ran hard for each other, spread quickly when in possession and moved the ball effectively. Our forwards responded and capitalised on the scoreboard. From the start of the second quarter, The Basin controlled clearances and moved the ball well through the corridor. Despite working hard, we got sucked into contests, lost our structure and made things hard for ourselves. Our back six stood up and minimised the damage. At half time the boys took on board the feedback and challenged each other to respond. A few structural adjustments and then back into it. The Basin didn’t take a step backwards, however we regained the ascendency through much better ball use and worked much harder defensively to close down the opposition’s run through the middle. We continued this through to the end of the game and were rewarded with a strong win. Plenty to like about the way we played the game but also improvement in key areas we will work on during the week. A great challenge awaits against an undefeated Boronia next week. We will welcome back our coach Mark Brindley which will be just the tonic to keep us moving forward. Very even team contribution across the board with Heywood, Messenger, Prout , Hilton, Hammond, Valle named in the best. Hilton, Pirzas and Ross led the way on the scoreboard.

Reserves Coaches Report
Great to get 3 wins on the weekend well done to all, our boys produced a solid effort all round to win by 10 goals against The Basin, it now leaves us 3 & 2 with momentum heading into a tough game this week against the undefeated Boronia. The focus was to start well and we did kicking 4 goals to 1 and from there we ran over them in the 2nd qtr to lead by 50 points at half time. To their credit the came at us through the 3rd in which they kicked 2 in a row but after a re-focus at 3 qtr time we continued on our way with a consistent last qtr to run out winners by 55 points. Lou Marro is on fire right now with another best on grd performance booting 6, Tom V in the ruck was super all day and our on ballers lead by the skipper Tsolos were on top in the clearances, the back 6 controlled the footy well and really setup or attack. Massive test this week, one that were are all up for and can’t wait to get into. Our supporters once again were great so thank you.

Senior Coaches Report
This week we hosted The Basin who were coming off a good win against Templestowe so we knew we would be in for a tough day.
Having started slowly the last couple of weeks we had a real focus to get out of the gates quickly this week, pleasingly we were able to do so winning the ball in the contest and linking up well to give our forwards some good opportunities to score and we opened up a 5 goal lead.
We continued to play some good footy in the 2nd quarter and extended our lead to 47 points at half time.
To the Basin’s credit they didn’t roll over and hit us hard in the 3rd quarter as both sides scored 4.1.
We managed to get back on top in the last quarter but were wasteful in front of goal kicking 3.7 to 1 goal for the quarter to run out victors by 66 points
Will Gordon continued his fantastic form giving our mids first usage, while Zac Carrol and Jarrod West were supreme all day through the midfield.
Thanks to everyone who came along to watch us, we look forward to seeing you out at Boronia this week.
