The Mitcham Football Club are pleased to announce our finalised coaching appointments for season 2019. As mentioned at the clubs sold out presentation night we have made some significant changes to our coaching line up for the upcoming season.
The club has decided to move in a different direction with our Under 19’s squad by appointing Mark Brindley to take charge of our talented list of youngsters for the upcoming season. We would like to thank Kevin Bentley for his last two years of involvement at the club and wish him all the best for the future. Mark brings a wealth of experience to the 19’s as head coach in a crucial role developing our younger players into senior footballers.
At Senior level both Neil Winterton and Steve Jordan have been reappointed in their respective roles of senior and reserves coaches along with assistants Brett Purcell and Ben Prout. Another familiar face in Carl Barker will rejoin the club as a line coach after a short stint away from the club. Joining (or rejoining) the club as senior assistant coach will be Aaron Smith. A familiar name with most at the club, Aaron will be a very welcomed addition to an already solid group of coaches.
Aaron or Smiddy as we know him, coached the clubs reserves to the 2013 premiership, then just fell short in 2014 as runners up. With roughly 200 games experience as a player at local level and 10 years of senior coaching experience, Aaron brings a wealth of knowledge that will enhance the clubs coaching stocks significantly. After 3 years as head assistant at the Bayswater Football Club (2015/16/17) incl the 2016 premiership Smiddy returns to the Mitcham in what will be a crucial yet exciting period for the football club.
“I am thrilled to be coming back to the Mitcham Football Club. The Mitcham Football Club has provided me with tremendous opportunities in the past and I look forward to being able to work with the Senior Coach, Neil Winterton and his team to further the development of our playing group. It is an exciting time to be involved with the Tigers. The Club has a young and talented list. There is wonderful off field support for the playing and coaching groups, and the Club continues to enjoy terrific support from the local community. The Club has an effective plan in place to allow for continuous improvement with all involved having a clear and strong understanding of what the Club is hoping to achieve.I know that my Values closely align with that of the mighty Mitcham Football Club. A strong team ethic, pride in one’s performance, clear and regular communication, a dedicated and disciplined approach, together with developing and maintaining respectful, meaningful and positive connections with others are all important features of the Mitcham Football Club.My coaching philosophy is to see players, supporters and volunteers associated with the Club enjoy their footy, to see players and the Club improve, and to see the Club and its players be as competitive as they can be.Furthermore, working towards developing a strong defence and maximising our efforts in this area of the game can provide a sound platform from which to attack. After meeting Neil, it is pleasing to know that my philosophy works in well with that of the Club’s premiership coach.
I am really looking forward to working with the Club, Neil and the wider team to achieve improvement and success at the Tigers in Season 2019.”
We welcome Aaron back to the club and wish all our coaches the best of luck in what will be an exciting year for the Mitcham Football Club both on and off the field.
