Another wet and cold Saturday greeted us at Lilydale this week. While there was only one W in the win column, for the reserves, our under 19s and seniors were far from disgraced by the top of the table Falcons. With no netball this week, our girls maintain their top 3 position on the ladder. Under 19s probualary got the worst of the weather and with 3 of their best out, it certainanlty didn’t dampen their enthusiasm for the contest going down by 26 points. Hallo with 2 was also named BOG along with Laughlin, Antoniou, Hammond, Irving and Stylos all named in the best. BIG THANK YOU again to Debbie Stingell for the great photos
Reserves led from start to finish and could have had the game done and dusted at 3/4 time but for poor kicking. Two quick goals by the Dales at the beginning of the last, meant game on but our boys steadied, winning 3 - 11 to 3- 4. All single goal kickers with De Luca, Finch, Arguello, Brock, McArdle, and Elms all named in the best.
Seniors showed plenty early leading by 24 points at the long break. Lucas had a purple patch early, booting 3 majors as we gave as good as we got. Once again we allowed the opposition back into the game during the 3rd term as we coughed up our lead. Last quarter Dales showed why they’re top of the table, but to our boy’s credit they never threw in the towel. Lucas with 3 and Winteron 2 were our only multiple goal kickers. The Skipper Jackson Glossop was named best along with Cheery, Uren, McCartney, Lucas and Winterton. Great to see Witta, Warney, Boppa, Pigga and Panda all out supporting the club today.
THANK YOU also to the Mitcham Faithful who turned out in numbers this week in poor conditions, the players really appricate it
BIG Month for the club coming up with the 130th dinner NEXT WEEK; if you haven’t booked your tickets please do so with Macca ASAP. Should be a great night with a great band; we would love to see all connected to the club in attendance. There are only 20 tickets left for the sponsor’s lunch on Saturday 28th July with Dane Swan. You don’t have to be a sponsor to attend; contact Macca for tickets. Unfortunately The MND Ladies Lunch on Saturday August 4th with Neale Daniher is SOLD OUT. BIG THANK YOU to a couple of club sponsors who have put their hand up to help out. Firstly Hine Hire in Rowville who are supplying a fully lined and heated marquee on the netball court, increasing the capacity to over 240. Secondly, Southern Cross Protection has agreed to make sure that all goes well over the weekend, supplying on site security. Great clubs are made of great people and even better community partners, so if you get a chance please spread the word about these two great companies who are helping make this one of the biggest events ever held on game day.#strongandbold
Under 19s Coaches Report
After being on the wrong end of a 74pt loss the first time around against Lilydale, we went into this week’s game looking to prove last weeks close loss to Croydon was a true indication of our improvement over the last 8 weeks. In a tough 1st half we surrendered the lead right on the half time siren so we were fairly pleased with our efforts. The 3rd quarter had Lilydale gain the ascendency but we were still fighting hard and by no means out of the contest @3/4 time. We had many opportunities in the final term but couldn't find the scoreboard and as good sides do Lilydale scored against the flow, snagging a couple late goals to blow the margin out to 26 points. Overall another great improvement from our first meeting and with players returning in the coming weeks our destiny is in our own hands

Reserves Coaches Report
Lilydale away is never an easy task and their 2’s have been struggling this year so it was pleasing to get the win in a very contested and dogged game. In a blustery cold day there was a fair breeze to one end, our running game was inconsistent as Lilydale did a good job flooding numbers around the contest, with all the play in the first half we only had a 10 point lead at halftime with a number of missed opportunities. In the 3rd we continued on that way kicking 1 goal 6 with 3-4 missed set shots and really should’ve put the game away with all the play. They had the breeze in the last and they made the most of their chances early with 2 goals to close our lead to just 3 pts, to our credit the boys fought hard to hold it in our forward 50 with finally getting a well deserved goal by Dave McCardle with a great snap. We held on for an ugly win however in tough conditions that’s footy to our boys credit they never gave in. Zach Elms was super around the grounds, Dave Mc gave us really good drive on the ball and our back six lead by Marty was outstanding once again. We are off to Wanny Sth next week for another big task next week where we look to get 2 in a row. Awesome support in ordinary weather thanks to those for coming along.
