The Mitcham Tigers showed on Saturday we are not quite done with just yet, with a stirring victory over the top of the table Doncaster East at the MCG of the East. On a bitterly cold day our boys led at every break and while challenged on numerous occasions by the flag fancy, the tigers showed enough to suggest that our young team may just be on the rise. Louie Marro with 4 majors was voted best a field with Will Gordon, Lucas, Willenberg, McCubbin, and Ryan also named in the best.
Reserves didn’t fair quite as well going down by 18 points. Glanville with 3 was named in the best along with Green, McArdle, Menzies, Elms and Brock.
Under 19s continued their good form winning their 4th straight game in a close one by two points. Unfortunately a period of play was lost during the 3rd quarter with a young Doncaster east player requiring an ambulance. Great to see both club trainers working together to make sure the young lad received the best possible attention. Irving with 3 majors was also named in the best along with Powson, Antoniou, Laughlin, Tommy Stingell and Prout. NEXT WEEK we are off to the wide open spaces of Kings Park to take on Upper Gully.

Under 19s Coaches Report
After a good month of footy we had opportunity to grab 4th spot, starting well with a 3 goal breeze we jumped out to a four goal lead only to have that cut to 8 points by half time.
After an unfortunate accident just after the break, one their boys suffered a heavy concussion and the ambulance called so we lost time during the 3rd Quarter.
That left us with about 8 minutes with the wind and only a lead of 9 pts. by 3/4 time. With 4th spot on line the last quarter presented us with a real challenge, Pleasing to say on the back of Tommy Stingel, Jayden Irving and Jared Powson the boys all lifted as we enjoyed one of our finest quarters of the season to hold off a very determined Doncaster East to win by 2 points

Certainly wasn’t our day as we couldn’t get out of second gear and we paid dearly with a poor loss against opposition that was below us on the ladder, there are no easy games in this division and if your not switched on and ready to play you’ll pay the price. Our start was slow as we looked flat and to their credit they just out worked us in all aspects of the game run, tackle, voice and conversion. We did play well in the 3rd and we hit the lead as we lifted the intensity and pressure on them however they responded in the last to kick away at the end of qtr with 2 late goals to win by 18 points. Our best was Dave McCardle who willed himself to get us back in it on the ball, Greeny in ruck won his position with Zach Elms and Menzies again consistent across 4 qtr’s however we fell away after that. Very disappointing loss for us after 3 great weeks of footy, back to working really hard during the week as we head to Upper Gully away on Saturday who are pushing for a top four spot, time to respond for our boys I’m looking forward to see us bounce back. On such a cold day thanks to all that came down to cheer the boys.

Senior Coaches Report
This week we faced Doncaster East who sat equal top of the table and were undefeated since round 1, so we knew it would be a tough contest for us.
The challenge for us was to be able to replicate our form from the last couple of weeks against one of the top teams in the competition.
We had a strong focus of starting well and bringing our pressure game which had been at a high level the last couple of games. Pleasingly we were able to do so and with the aid of the breeze we held a 2 goal lead a ¼ time.
In the 2nd quarter we were able to withstand Doncaster East’s early push and steadied to hold a 10 point lead going into the main break.
We knew that they would come out fired up in the 3rd and the challenge was whether we could match them when the intensity lifted. In a sign of maturity we were able to do so, continuing our pressure and using the ball well around the ground and skipped out to a 16 point margin at ¾ time.
In the last quarter with the aid of the breeze Doncaster East threw everything at us cutting the margin to under a goal on multiple occasions, earlier in the season we would’ve succumbed to the pressure but we were able to absorb it and hold on for a 7 point win.
Lou Marro continued his recent good form, whilst Tom Lucas was very important in a defensive roll for us.
Thanks to everyone who came along and braved the cold conditions to help us get across the line, we really appreciate your support.
