With only a week to go before the opening round of 2018 the Mitcham Football Club are pleased to announce our Senior leadership group and coaching positions.
The club has undergone a full transformation over the pre season with over 30 players added to the playing list and the departure of some key players from 2017.
Neil Winterton will again coach the senior side with the support of Steve Jordan and new assistant Brett Purcell who coached Bayswater 19's and Reserves for several years and was also in involved at Sandringham Dragons as a development coach. Brett will work closely with our younger players and will run the bench game day while Neil is on the field.
Steve Jordan will continue as coach of the reserves with the help long time assistant Ben Prout. Jordy has worked extremely hard over the last few years and has developed into an excellent coach at both reserves and senior level.
Two time senior best and fairest winner and last years vice captain Jackson Glossop will lead the senior side in 2018. 2017 best and fairest winner Lockie Ryan will be vice captain while Lachlan Rudd and Will Gordon complete the senior leaders.
Senior coach Neil Winterton said " Jacko has been the heart and soul of the team for several years now. He leads by example both on and off the field and sets a high standard for the team to follow. Lockie gained everyones respect from the minute he walked in the door last year. His fearless attack on the footy and the never say die attitude is infectious on the group. Ruddy plays with so much passion that his team mates have no option but to ride along. He attacks the footy whole heartedly at every contest and always does the team thing. Will is a big man with a big presence around the ground. He hates to lose a contest and plays with an aggression that makes his team walk taller."
Chris Tsolos will captain the reserves this year after the retirement of premiership captain Matt Beagley due to injury. Alex Finch and Mikey Raath will be vice captains.
Reserves coach Steve Jordan said " After 2 years as Vice Captain under Matty Beagley, its great too see Chris Tsolos step into the captaincy of the Reserves. Chris has led by example on and off the park and is well respected by all at the club. Supporting Chris will be Alex finch and Mikey Raath. Finch has been in the leadership group for the last two years and always displays great support to his team mates. Mikey gets his opportunity after a stellar year as a player but more importantly his awesome attitude and willingness to be a team man. I can wait to work more with these blokes throughout the year."
Under 19's will return again in 2018 after a year off last season. They will be coached by Kevin Bentley and assisted by former dual club best n fairest Mark Brindley. The Under 19's leaders will be announced Thursday night at team selection and dinner - We invite ALL Mitcham members and supporters to join us for our first selection night of 2018
The club will be holding their annual family day Saturday April 7 when we take on Upper FTG in our opening round at home.
