It was a double dose of Blues for a very undermanned Tigers this week as both The Seniors and Reserves went down to Croydon away in bitterly cold and windy conditions. 1st XVIII had another 5 forced changes this week at the selection table and Lost Jay Hoegel early on to really stretch our depth. To the boys credit they gave all they had and at ¾ time held a 7 point lead. Unfortunately the last quarter was all Croydon as they finished the stronger to win by 22 points. All single goal kickers this week with Toohey, Ryan, Willenberg, Gordon, Barro and Winterton all named in the best.
2nd XVIII depth was really tested with 6 players playing their first game of the season and at ¾ time an upset was brewing as the Tigers took it to the second placed Blues. Unfortunately right on the siren Croydon scored a late goal to snatch the win against a very gallant Mitcham. Brad Wotton was the stand out with 2 majors and a BOG performance with Story, Menzies, Raath, Tsolos, and Rambaldo also named in the best.

Reserves Coaches Report
With 17 players only on Thursday night due to so many injuries we put the call out for help and we managed to get 7 fill in’s, 3 from U19’s last year and some older stalwarts of the club. Playing Croydon who are 2nd losing only 2 games this year we were right up against it, our message before the game was be accountable and have a real crack together, well the boys delivered just that as the scores were even all day with a howling wind going down the ground. We kicked 3 goals to 1 in the 3rd to take a 20 point lead into the last as we were defending against the wind, we knew they would come so our contested footy was paramount, scores were level with only a few minutes left but with a late point we had the lead with less than a minute to go, unfortunately with pretty much the last kick of the day they kicked a goal to snatch the win by 5 points. The boys were gutted rightfully so as we were the better side on the day, our team approach and effort considering having 7 fill in’s I couldn’t ask for more. Brad Wotton was outstanding with 12 marks for the game most contested, our mid’s lead by Tsolos, Menz, Rambo,Finch , Wylde & Mikey were solid all day as were our back 6 and Ethan in ruck was super giving us a huge 4 qtr effort. Would like to thank, Toby Ward, Tom Wilson,Luke Kounellis, Lyolldy, Q, Dane and Clancy for helping out you all were terrific and thanks to all the supporters that came down.

Senior Coaches Report
This week we traveled out to Croydon for another important game, unfortunately we had some key outs at the selection table but it opened up the door for Cam Taylor and Tom Blanche to play their first senior games of the season. We started well with the aid of the breeze taking a 6 point lead into quarter time, unfortunately the injury gods continued to frown upon us as Jayden Hoegel coming off a 7 goal performance was out of the game 10 minutes into the 1st quarter with a knock to the head. In the 2nd quarter we battled hard into the breeze keeping Croydon at bay until the last 7-8 minutes of the quarter when we conceded some late goals and went into the main break with a 13 point deficit. Again we had some bad luck with Tom Miles unable to continue in the 2nd half due to a head knock. In the 3rd quarter we had plenty of play restricting Croydon to 1 point and registering 3.3 to hold a 7 point lead at 3/4 time. The boys knew the game was there for the taking in the last quarter but unfortunately we couldn't go on with the job, with a couple more injuries and a send off leaving us without a bench for much of the last quarter, we ran out of legs and to Croydon's credit they took full toll running out winners by 22 points. Jake Toohey provided plenty of run all day on a wing and Anthony Willenberg was very good across half back. A special mention to Mick Barro who in his 3rd senior game played most of the game with a cracked bone just below his shoulder after a collision in the first quarter, he was under clear duress in the last quarter but still came on and sacrificed his body going back with the flight of the ball and getting crunched despite already being in pain in what was one of the more courageous acts I've seen on a footy field. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us, we look forward to seeing you all at home next week for a big clash against Doncaster East.
