Round one done and dusted and it was great to come away from Kings Park with 2 wins. Day started off more suited for cricket and finished off more suited too…. Well really we don’t know what it was more suited too as Melbourne showed its notorious 4 seasons in a day weather with a wild thunderstorm just as the senior game finished. The senior boys won a tough low scoring affair with Ruddy leading the way down back and 18 year old James McCubbin on debut very good across half forward / wing. Not Sure we have ever played such a young reserves side but wasn’t it great to see so many of our young talent staking a claim for senior selection with Joseph, Rambaldo McKeown and a very youthful Johnston leading the way. BIG Thank you to the Upper Gully Folk for their hospitality, good luck for the season and we look forward to seeing you guys later in the season @ The MCG of the East. #strongandbold

Great to get a win first up away from home against a strong side, with 9 under 19's from last year in the line up it's great to have such talent but more importantly great attitudes towards their footy and the the team. We started ok in difficult conditions a bit scratchy with our skills left us only a couple goals up at halftime with having most of the play. We let opportunities go by in the third qtr kicking 2 goals 6 which really kept them in the game, our run dropped off late in the qtr and to Uppers credit they worked harder than us going into the 3 qtr time break.
We adjusted that effort early in the last to kick away and get the points, Rambo on the ball was super all day, BJ ran and broke the lines really showing his class, Tom Lucas presented all day and kicked a couple, all of them are pushing hard for Seniors which is what we want, Bluey was terrific also up forward with his pressure. Plenty to work on as we didn't get close to the level I believe this group can get to. Our supporters turned out in force we all very much appreciate that so thanks to all.

Senior Coaches Report
After a long pre season the boys were jumping out of their skin heading into round 1. We came up against Upper Gully who had won the division 3 flag after going through the season undefeated, we knew they would be pumped up as they unfurled their flag before the first bounce. Excitingly we had 7 players playing their first senior game for the club. It was a hot start as expected in blustery conditions which made it hard going inside forward 50, our 2nd quarter was fantastic as we held them scoreless and opened up a handy 23 point margin. Upper Gully worked their way back into the contest in the third quarter showing why they went undefeated last year. The last quarter was a real arm wrestle has the wind picked right up and the heavens threatened to open. To the boys credit they really dug in and played some hard and smart footy in the last quarter and we came away with an 11 point win. Lachlan Rudd was outstanding all day winning one on one contests and providing plenty of dash out of defense and James McCubbin was fantastic in his first senior game giving us plenty of run and carry all day long. With Easter this weekend we have the week off and then have our first home game against Wanny Sth we look forward to seeing everyone down there for our home opener.
