Excellent Day for the Mitcham Footy Club yesterday with our sold out presidents lunch featuring Trent Cotchin and outstanding success. Trent proved to be an outstanding young man and even though arriving home from Western Australia at 8.00 am in the morning was very giving of his time. PHIL Murton CEO of the EFL was also excellent with a great insight into all things EFL. He also presented MC and event coordinator Gavin Ward with a services to football award.
From a football point of view we won the game that counted with the seniors recording an excellent victory over last year’s 2nd Division preliminary final finalist Croydon in front of a big crowd. It was great to see a number of boys step up after losing 3 key players from the week before. We wish both Rob Petracca and Braeden Cross Speedy recoveries from season ending injuries and look forward to seeing Tyson McKenzie back in a week or so.
The Reserves and under 19 both missing a number of players due to a growing injury list put up spirited performances against quality Croydon sides but showed they are both going to be very competitive in Division two as the depth of our list is currently being tested. #Strongandbold
Under 19s Coaches Report
It was a disappointing result for our boys on Saturday losing to Croydon, a very skilful side who got too big of a jump on us too early in the game. Our boys failed to carry our preparation into the first half of the game and couldn't make the most of the limited opportunities we had up forward. Oscar Anderson starred for us in his first game for the club. His ability to hit the contest hard and give us first use lifted the rest of the side and got ourselves right back in the game heading into the last quarter. With only two on the bench and then a few injuries through the last half it was always going to be a challenge for our boys to finish the job. Josh Kable was fantastic in the ruck for the whole match while Tom Lucas, Danny Sanchez and Luke McKeown worked hard in the middle. A lot to work do but with the inclusion of a few key players we look forward to getting back on the winners list next week v Lilydale. Congrats to Winno and the Seniors on what was a fantastic win!

Reserves Coaches Report
First home game this year and unfortunately we didn't play consistent enough to get over a very good side in Croydon, with 5 changes from last week we had a different looking line up but still had a solid side to get the job done. It was 3 goals to 3 points at qtr time as we didn't take our opportunities. In the 2nd & 3rd we played poorly and once again missed crucial chances to get back into the game. We were soundly beaten in the clearances however we fought back in the last to kick 5 goals to go down by 4 goals. Tom Blanche was terrific on the wing his run and carry a highlight, Nathan Foster another first year player out of 19's was solid all day in the back 6 and Bluey in the middle fought hard for his touches. Playing in Div 2 we have to play 4 qtr footy as well as take the chances we create, lots to work on is week. Well done to seniors on a great result and congratulations to the club on a successful luncheon, all reports are it was a ripper, thanks to all the supporters who came along to cheer on the lads.
Senior Coaches Report
Round 2 had us playing our first home game for the season against Croydon who were keen to bounce back after a loss in round 1. Right from the first bounce we knew we were in for a hard contested brand of footy with both sides throwing themselves into the contest hard and tackling for keeps. With the wind at our back we started well and held an 11 points margin. In the 2nd quarter Croydon started like a house on fire kicking 5 goals in 8 minutes, to the boys credit with the game slipping away they fought back strongly to turn the momentum and go into the half time break 4 points down. The third quarter was much of the same with both sides continuing to crack in hard and give away nothing easy. We managed to open up a 16 point buffer going into the last quarter. After Pimmy kicked the first of the last quarter Croydon had control for the next 6-7 minutes but missed some kickable shots at goal. Pleasingly we once again found away to arrest control back and finished full of running to run out victors by 22 points. Jayden Hoegel was outstanding all day with 4 goals. Jarrad Elton was a tower of strength in the ruck, whilst Pimmy finished off some good work with 6 majors. Thanks to all the supporters who came out to see us unfurl our premiership flag and to those that came to the president’s lunch, look forward to seeing you throughout the season.
