Under 19s Coaches Report
Heading into Round 1 we had no idea what we would be up for in Division 2. The focus was to get off to a good start by hitting the contest hard and making the most of our opportunities forward. While our accuracy in front of goal let us down we managed to keep enough pressure on our opposition to have the lead going into the main break. Our midfield were hard at it all day and Luke McKeown and Julian Rambaldo led from the front with their contested stoppage work giving us plenty of drive. Our backs were superb under pressure and rarely leaked easy goals. Waverley Blues came hard at us in the last quarter but our boys fought hard to stop them taking control. A lot of work to do on the track to get where we want to be but a 5 goal win in Round 1 in a new division is a fantastic start. Our attention turns to what will be a strong Croydon outfit on Saturday at home. Congratulations to the Seniors & Reserves in their wins in what was a fantastic day for the whole club!
Reserves Coaches Report
Round 1 against a very strong Waverley outfit was going to be a tough first encounter in 2nd Division. With 12 new players from our GF side last year we had a big challenge ahead, well the boys were just terrific with our pressure around the contest the highlight. They kicked the first 2 however we bounced back to be even a the first break, from there we converted our chances and went into halftime 3-4 goals in front, they came at us a couple of times in the 3rd and 4th but we kept up our pressure to run out and win by 4 goals. Lead by Beags all our in ballers were dominant, Tyler at CHF was outstanding and Piggers, Dale and Bluey all kicking multiple goals. The back 6 were super with Tayles, John Feeney and Finchy providing our run. First gamers up from 19's Mikey and Tommy were tireless all day and really contributed with their run and carry. Plenty to work on still but very happy with our first hit out.
Senior Coaches Report
Round 1 had us coming up against Waverley who had finished 5th the previous season 1 spot out of the finals so we knew we would have a challenging game ahead of us. We put a really strong focus on starting the match well as this had been a real area of concern for us during the preseason. To the boy’s credit we had an outstanding first quarter with our ball use and defensive pressure a real highlight, it allowed us to have a 41 point advantage at quarter time and set us up well for the rest of the day. It was really pleasing to see us not take the foot off the pedal and play a really good 4 quarter team game. Pimmy and Chris Hoegel were dangerous up forward all day kicking 6 goals each whilst Faulk's work rate was outstanding all day. Through the midfield everyone contributed allowing us to win the stoppages throughout the day. And the back 6 were fantastic led by Balts and new comer Mitch Keedle providing plenty of run. Round 2 sees us up against Croydon who will be looking to bounce back this week so it will be a very challenging match. Look forward to seeing all our supporters out at our first home game for the season as we unfurl our premiership flag.
