Round 16 of EFL Footy had the Tigers taking on the Boronia Hawks away. Under grey skies The under 19s were out muscled by a bigger, stronger and far more aggressive Hawks outfit going down by 49 points. The Reserves hot streak continued with a crushing 106 point victory while the Seniors were made to work hard for the win eventually getting the job done by 8 points with still plenty of room for improvement. The good news is there are only two more games to go as we build towards finals and both are at home so no doubt we will see the tiger faithful out n about over the coming weeks. Off field last week’s ball was an outstanding success so well done Michelle Lucas on organizing such a spectacular event and didn’t the best dressed couple Trav Murphy and Jacinta Minney look absolutely fabulous.
DON’T FORGET The Reverse Draw is Last game of the season Saturday 15th of August see Macca for tickets. Congratulations to the under 12s on winning though to the Grand final Sunday week and bad luck to the under 15s who lost and were eliminated but still had an excellent season . Under 19s Coaches Report
This week we received a big wakeup call from the top side in our division. After a tight match last time we met and only five points separating the two sides we expected another close encounter. The first half the boys kept up with the pace but our inability to follow instructions and a lack of physicality cost us in the second half. To their credit Boronia played good hard footy and set the tone for what will be a tough finals series in the coming weeks. Luke McKeown again set the bar for the work rate required to be competitive and our backs were serviceable under pressure. We will hit the track again this week and work hard to right the wrongs from the weekend. The side has played some fantastic footy so far this season and with some key inclusions back from injury we are confident we can bounce back over the next two weeks and carry some form into finals. Thanks to our supporters for turning up yet again and congratulations to the Reserves and seniors on their wins. See you all at home next week for a big game against Upper FTG.
Reserves Coaches Report
Heading out to Boronia on Saturday we were up against a side that had a lot to play for as they were only a game out of five, they have been inconsistent this year so we had to be switched on if we were to get the points. With a five goal first quarter we started well and really set the tone for the day, we continued to use the ball and run well on the big ground to come away with a 100 point win, Ruddy was outstanding off half back and Aaron Menzies through the middle used the footy well all day. Whitchy kicked 3 and took multiple marks to continue on his form. At the end of the day we had an overall four quarter effort. Huge game against Upper Gully this week who are one game behind us so we are looking forward to another challenge. Thank you to all the supporters who were there we all really appreciate it..
Senior Coaches Report
We came up against Boronia this week who were celebrating their thousandth game so we knew they would be up for the challenge. Right throughout the day it was a hard fought and tightly contested game with neither side being able to get on top and pull away with a comfortable margin. Faced with a 7 point deficit at 3 quarter time it was pleasing to see us respond to the challenge in the last quarter and run over the top of them to hold them goalless and come away with a 8 point win. The win sewed up top spot for the season which is a fantastic achievement by the boys. Although we aren't playing our best footy at the moment I'm confident that we will turn it around over the next 2 weeks and be ready for the finals. Special mention to Witta who led from the front all day and was the only player who put in a 4 quarter performance. Thanks to everyone who came out to game on a cold day and also turned up to ball as it was a great night. We look forward to seeing you all down at walker park for the last 2 games.
