Red letter day This weekend for the Mitcham Footy Club with a sell-out crowd at the presidents Luncheon, an excellent turn out for the Mitcham Past Players and Officials reunion of the 1970 senior, 1975 Senior and Under 17 Premiership teams Plus the seniors and reserves recording solid victories against quality opposition in Templestowe while the under 19s had the bye
The day kicked off in grand style with the Pres. Lunch where a sell-out crowd was entertained by 6 time Former Grand final umpire Darren Goldspink along with Current Melbourne Player and number 2 draft pick Christian Petracca, with the lunch finishing with a bang when comic Chris Bennet had the crowd in tears. BIG THANK to Darren and Christian for their excellent work Plus Luke Smith, Junior Pres. Craig Giles and Sectary Glenn Newnham for their work in setting up the event along with Julie Searl and Dane Wilson for the fabulous meals.
From a football point of view the reserves had a solid 4 goal victory and by the time the seniors (who were missing a couple of their best) started a big crowd had gathered under the score board for the player’s reunion to see the Mitcham boys run out 30 point winners with Marro and Pimm both booting 3.
Reserve Coaches Report
Super effort from our boys this week to win by 4 goals against a side that was level with us on 8 wins. With slippery cold conditions it was always going to be contested footy with plenty of stoppages and we were terrific being first in all day. Half time saw us with 5 points after missing a couple of set shots to Tempy’s 2 goals 3, but we knew one goal would split this game open has we were Cleary having more possession than them in the first two quarters. Our effort was rewarded early in the 3rd with 2 great goals from Marc and Parksy, followed by another 2 for term and with Tempy being goalless we were playing all over them heading into the 4th. Again we were dominating possession and crashing in well, 3 goals to 1 saw us take the points clearly, our on ballers were outstanding with Beags leading from the front again, Finchy, Jenko, Menzies,Jayke & Phil providing real hardness at the contest. Morgan in the ruck was tireless, his ability to get to the ground quickly and become another on baller was just super. Our back 6 was really tested and proved to be critical in our win with Emmo and Lloydy rebounding all day. Great win couldn’t be prouder of our effort, still plenty to work on so training is important once again, well done to the Seniors awesome performance and thank you to all our supporters whom where at the game this week.

Senior Coaches Report
Round 12 had us hosting templestowe in what we knew would be a tough challenge for us, they had been in very good form leading into the game so we would have to play at our best to get the 4 points. We started the game well in slippery conditions bringing good tackling intensity and good ball movement to jump out to a 17 point lead. In the 2nd quarter we continued to attack the man and ball aggressively and were able to hit the scoreboard with some good play from Lucas Marro who kicked 2 goals for the quarter, we went to the main break with a 24 point margin. We got right on top in tough conditions in the 3rd quarter with Pimmy battling hard on a tough day to kick 3 goals for the quarter, we extended our lead to 36 points at three quarter time. In the last quarter they threw everything at us kicking the first 2 goals but pleasingly we were able to steady and run out winners by 30 points. Jackson Glossop was fantastic all day down back and Lucas Marro was dangerous up forward with his work rate to chase and harrass a real highlight. Congratulations to our skipper Witta who played his 150th senior game, that is a fantastic achievement. Thanks to all the supporters who came along and braved the freezing conditions, hopefully we see you all out at Whitehorse this week
