What a wonderful feeling to be on the winner’s board after the final siren! How great was it that we actually had the luxury of resting players off the bench? Well done to the A Grade side for a brilliant game and good to see that later on the boys were still ‘training’ with the Game of Life… I’m sure those push ups will pay off later in the year! Thank you to all our sponsors and hope to see you all there at Kongorong for another exciting game.
Junior Colts- It was a tough day for the boy’s first game, Hatherleigh had a big side and it was going to be hard for our smaller kids against the bigger bodies. Our 3rd quarter showed some really positive signs and showed that if you’re first to the ball, you’ll win it every time. Lockie Tilley was fantastic with his guts and determination, proving why he was best. Jordan Stark moved into the middle and got plenty of it. Riley Chant was 3rd best, playing well at CHF and in the ruck. Best of luck this week boys and with some hard work, we’ll come out on top.
Senior Colts- Excellent start for the season with the boys really applying themselves from the first bounce getting five goals on the board in the 1st quarter. The second quarter saw another 7 kicked into the wind to give us an 11 goal lead at half time. The players really shared the footy around well, showing unselfish team orientated footy. Our ball use was excellent and work rate exceptional. At half time we swung the team around to bring others into the game but unfortunately our work rate dropped, in particular our mid fielders who didn’t work hard enough into defence. Shepherds and communication really dropped off, something we really need to be switched on with next week against Kongorong.
B Grade- Takes a bit of time to get together with a few new faces and a bit of match fitness is required. Good first up efforts by Stephen Devine and Shane Grosvenor. Goal kicking practice may need some work at training. Good to see a full squad turn up ready to go. Need to stick at it, looking forward to a good year at the club.
A Grade- Perfect start to the season with a team with new faces quickly gelling. Fantastic team effort with 10 goal scorers, with many unselfish give offs. Backline worked well with plenty of run and switch of play allowing quick movement of the footy. It’s been a long time since the Bay got off to a start like this with many positive signs. Always room for improvement though as we prepare to take on Kongorong in the ANZAC Day clash. Best players were tough to choose with many in the mix, best to just put it down to a great team effort!
