A GRADE
The first half of the A grade was goal for goal and there were certainly some promising signs for the club. We had the Demons under pressure early and their frustration was showing. Some excellent defensive work from young gun Sam Scudds against a much larger opponent kept the Demon's attack at bay while Stuart Maxfield showed good from through the center of the ground. Hayden Fromm & Marcus Burdett provided options across half forward while a prominent target up forward in Sam Braidwood gave the boys a slim lead at the first break and scores would have been level at half time if not for a late burst from Willunga resulting in two goals.
Despite the Demons finding their feet on home soil in the third our boys never gave up. 'Represent your club with pride' was the call from coach Brett Giles at three quarter time and the boys put in a hard fought effort until the final siren, going down by 6 goals in a highly competitive match.

RESERVES
The reserves match saw the Demons blow out the score early in the first quarter and a somewhat lack-lustre effort by the Bulldogs had us gainst the ropes come quarter time. A stern spraying from coach Roger Chaplin let the guys know more was needed in order to stop the onslaught.
A more concerted effort which included some inspiring midfield movement from Adam Hunter saw the Bulldogs match the Demons in the third term against the wind but it wasn't enough to recover the 6 goal defecit conceded in the first half. The boys went down by 8 goals against the reigning premiers.

A tough first round for the club that has set the bar at where all teams need to be in order to be playing finals football at the end of the year. Everyone will look forward to having another shot at Willunga but for now we look to round 2 against the Mudlarks at home.
