The Bloods travelled across to Emerald on Saturday under a massive strain. The tragic loss overnight of one of our most loved characters, Michael Wilson, was only just coming to light as the players were arriving for their matches. Saturday was the ultimate test of our playing group across both sports and the efforts of all over the day were exceptional.
Please read newsitem on website for further reading on the tragic loss of our young star;
NETBALL
A GRADE
OLINDA FERNY CREEK 18 VS EMERALD 62.
As expected we came up against strong opposition this week with Emerald, whilst there were many good passages of play by Olinda we were unable to get enough opportunities to goal.
The final score did not fully reflect the amount of ball we had, the effort of the team was commendable on a sad day for the Olinda Club, as was the way the team played the game out - putting in an excellent last quarter which saw us shoot equal goals in that quarter.
Fiona Mc Nair was best in Goal Keeper taking many intercepts with Cassie Meadows also playing well in defence. Samantha Royce as always played a solid game in Centre.
Congratulations to Katie Stevens who is expecting her first child , we wish Katie all the best as she takes a temporary break from netball and we look forward to you coming back next season !
B GRADE
OLINDA FERNY CREEK 27 VS EMERALD 33.
Emerald were a tough side.
Although we lost, the improvements in our game have been nothing more than tremendous. If we can continue with this momentum we will be wining games very soon!
A great effort by all the girls, especially Brooke Northey having another great game in GA, Bernadette Fitzgerald with her defensive skills and Kelli Riddiford for having an outstanding performance in centre
FOOTBALL
U18S
OLINDA FERNY CREEK 94 VS EMERALD 38.
Obviously a very emotionally charged day for the club. To the boys absolute credit, we came away with a strong
win. They went
from being in tears before the game, to bonding out on the ground in the best
possible manner we could of hoped for. Emotions were kept in check, the ball and winning was the focus. The results speak for
themselves.
Butters, Owen,Cal (mr effecient)Beattie, Hollywood and Lukey were all inspirational
and a credit to themselves and the club, not taking anything at all from the
rest of their team mates. I
and the whole club are very proud of our young charges who set the tone for the
day.
Micky wilson our beloved little brother, would have been proud of you all
and touched by the way in which you conducted yourselves. AG.
RESERVES
OLINDA FERNY CREEK 92 VS EMERALD 42.
After trying to deal with the news of their sad
loss of their mate Mick Wilson a mere few hours beforehand the Reserves burst
onto the ground on Saturday determined to show that they are a serious
contender in 2009. They totally dominated the first three quarters & won by
an impressive 50 points, whilst slowing down a bit in the last quarter. Shannon
Fitzgerald impressed greatly with his energetic dashes from defence & James
O’Reilly celebrated his return from a pre-season injury with some real dash &
assurance. But it was Ben Telford who took the game by the ‘scruff of the neck’
with a clear best on ground performance.
SENIORS
OLINDA FERNY CREEK 116 VS EMERALD 88.
A fantastic win for the senior side on Saturday vs Emerald.
We had most of the play in the first ten minutes but could not capitalise with goals, only points. Emerald took it right up to us and did their homework well with some match ups that had them winning a great deal of footy at putting scoreboard pressure on us.
A much improved effort after half time although still very tight with Tregoning, G Stevens, Rosier and McDonald all putting in big efforts.
Ash Reid was solid up back and Broomhall finding his run on the wing. Blake Walter and Ben O'Niell finished with 3 each and Kirk 2 in a row at a crucial time gave us a little breathing space. Well done to Josh Wallace on his senior debut and great to see 4 under 18's playing in the senior team on the same day and 3 of those being first year unders.
1st's ending the game 28 point winners and holding top spot on the ladder. Toughest day of footy I've ever been involved in, I'm really proud of the whole club for the way it got up after our tragic loss of a fantastic young man. We have a tough time coming up and knowing what these guys are like, we will come through the other side stronger.
