UPGRADES to Olinda and Kalorama sporting reserves are on the way after a massive cash injection from a local bank. The Dandenong Ranges Community Bank Group has announced it will give $250,000 to upgrade the Olinda footy ground’s dilapidated change rooms. The Hilltop Recreation Association, made up of local sporting clubs which use the reserves, made a bid for the funding at the bank’s community forum last year. The cash will be spent on demolishing the old clubrooms and the construction of a building which will also be used by community groups for meetings and functions. Yarra Ranges Council announced last year the Olinda ground would get more than $2 million toward upgrades and the Kalorama reserve $1.2 million. Hilltop Recreation Association president Steve Scott was thrilled with the donation. The Hilltop clubs have held many fundraisers this year and raised more than $50,000 to contribute to the project. The reserves cater for about 800 people, including junior and senior players as well as many supporters and volunteers. Some works have been completed: the new netball court and cricket nets at Olinda and lights added to the Kalorama Reserve. Other works, including the change rooms, are due to be completed over the next few years. Bank chairman Peter Marke said he was pleased to support such a great project.
