What a weekend just gone, still shaking my head in disbelief at the AFL Grand Final result. The good news is that there's another 6 days of football to go which is good (isnt it ??)
Last Friday evening, the OFCFNC 2010 Presentation Night was held at Marybrooke. We had well over 100 attend which is a great result again. We saw the counting of the last 6 rounds of Best & Fairest votes for all grades. Five of those went right down to the wire whilst one winner was an absolute runaway. Co-hosted by Rick Wall and your truly (in my pies jumper), we looked back on some of the outstanding achievers of the year (on & off field) as well as the honouring of a club great.
Starting with the playing awards, the Top 3 placegetters and their votes in each team were as follows -
Seniors - Owen Millwood 144, Dylan Troutman 121, Tom Millwood 118.
Reserves - Steve Gannell 202, Mark Stevens 125, Symon Hill 105.
Under 18s - Harry Cole 145, Callum Eade 133, Luke Van Lierop 94.
A Grade - Mel Walter 21, Sam Royce 17, Mel Thomas 14.
B Grade - Stacey Riddiford 17, Kate Herzig 14, Lisa McKenzie 13.
C Grade - Carolyn Fuerst 21, Elise Tanzen 18, Rochelle Winstone & Becky Scott 9.
The Greg Zavan U25 Award was tied between Sam Royce and Glenn Stevens. We were again very fortunate to have Lisa Shaw present this very special award. It was really pleasing to see these two rewarded for outstanding off field achievement. Sam has been fantastic around the club since she joined OFC a few years back. This year, she assisted in social functions, helped out around the club on matchdays, as well as guiding the C Graders to our clubs 1st ever netball finals campaign. Glenn is a returning junior to our club, having come back to us in 2009. Over the past 2 years, he too has been terrific around the club, organising the carpeting of our home change rooms, assisting the U18s & Reserves sides consistantly throughout this year. He has really impressed us all since returning !
For mine, the absolute standout highlight, was the announcement of the Reserves Best & Fairest Medal, to now be known as the "Paul Wicks Medal". What a great night for the Wicks family and our club. It was the ultimate reward for a truly great club person. Congratulations from all of us Paul ! It was also very pleasing to have a flag and premiership cup on display.
Our champion U18 team was very well represented on the night, and it brought a terrific close to a wonderful year from our young stars. Again, congratulations to Back To Back Premiership Coach Andy Greenall and his charges, you have been outstanding in 2010.
To everyone who assisted in setting up the night, many thanks to you all. Particularly Rick Wall and Helen Wositzky for your efforts ! Also a special thankyou to our Netball girls who provided the floorshow "Swan Lake" in Netball gear. I thought you did a great job. Note to footballers; your turn next year, you've got plenty of time to come up with something !!
Just a reminder that our AGM is on Monday 25th October at the rooms at approx 7.30pm. Please come along if you think you have something to offer.
