Leongatha welcomed Wonthaggi Power to a perfect autumn day for the early games, but the massive crowd braved a cold change that hit right at the start of the seniors match played under lights. The honours on the day were shared with Wonthaggi and Leongatha winning 3 games each in the netball, and Leongatha winning two of the three football matches.
With the under 16s having the weekend off, we saw more evidence of the increasingly healthy relationship between our club and the Alberton League. For the second time in three rounds Leongatha were able to release a number of under 16 players to Alberton clubs, this favour having been returned by Tarwin Football Club the previous week with a number of under 18 players on permit to Leongatha. This partnership can only benefit the young footballers of South Gippsland and all the clubs involved and we thank the Alberton League and their clubs.
In the footy the seniors style of play under Beau is looking good and the camaraderie, attack on the ball and pressure on the opposition has been a highlight. The defence has now kept the opposition goalless for 2 quarters in both games we have played. The A grade girls also play an entertaining style, with a high scoring game resulting.
It was intresting to see the U17s, coached by 2 senior players in Rhett Kelly and Jake Mackie, play a very similar style of game plan to the seniors. Well done to the boys, Rhett, Jake and Beau.
