It is almost unthinkable, but the finals of the Gippsland League commence this week with no LFNC teams in action in either footy or netball. The season has not been productive in terms of wins, but the club is in good shape to face the challenges in 2015. Injuries hit us hard in footy and netball with A grade only having one week with their full compliment available. To finish 8th on the ladder but only lose to the top two teams by 2 goals shows how even the league is and that we only needed a little luck to have been competing in September. The seniors also struggled to keep the team on the park, with multiple players unavailable most weeks through injury. This however gave us the chance to blood many junior players who will hopefully take another step forward next season.
Positives included
- The recruiting of players who were quality people as well as quality footballers and netballers.
- The continued improvement of the ground surface with more work and improvements planned commencing tomorrow, Sunday 31st August at 8.00 am. More helpers never go astray, so simply turn up or contact Danny Hickey for more info.
- The growth of the family friendly environment. We averaged around 130 meals each Thursday in the second half of the season, with heaps of kids and their parents coming along.
- The continued renovation and improvement to the social rooms and kitchen, which will also continue on over the summer.
- The amazing community support from our sponsors and workers around the club.
- The further development of the relationship between the LFNC and the LJFC and their junior players.
- The continued development of our social media sites.
Unfortunately our Senior coach, Glenn Garner has announced that he will not be coaching the Parrots next year, as he and his family are making the massive move back to his wife Miriam’s home country of Norway. The players have gained so much this season from Glenn’s professionalism and his footy knowledge and Glenn leaves us in good shape to continue our development further next season. Farewell and our thanks to Glenn, Miriam, Logan and Alea.
Our vote count will have been held by the time you are reading this, so congratulations to those who polled well. The presentation night will be held at the Grandstand Function Rooms on Friday evening, 12th September, which is two weeks earlier than normal.
Last week we hosted Traralgon on what must have been some of the best conditions you could get for footy. The ground was close to perfect and the weather was sensational. Unfortunately we couldn’t match it with Traralgon in any grade of footy or netball, although the ever improving under 13 netballers came very close, and C grade and the seniors & reserves footballers put up impressive shows.

LJFC. Congratulations to the LJFC under 14s and under 10s in making it into this Sunday’s Central Gippsland Football League grand finals. Also well done to the under 12s, who only missed out by 3 points in their preliminary final.
Victory Through Harmony.
