This week we welcome the Traralgon FNC for the last home and away game of the season. I think it would be a long time since Leongatha and Traralgon played a Seniors home and away game knowing that neither team would be seeing any finals action.
Last week Moe made the trip south and were pleasantly surprised to find the football ground surface to be in almost perfect condition, that is after the fog cleared and they could actually see the ground. For the second week in a row U16 players at either end of the ground couldn’t see what was happening further afield. We had a few good wins, but Moe are definitely a club on the rise in footy and netball and they comfortably took out most of the junior footy and netball games.
Netball. We couldn’t have been prouder of our under 13 girls who showed how much they have come along this year under coach Brooke Brown and her helpers. The girls played magnificently to draw the game with Moe who are sitting 3rd on the ladder. Moe was too strong in the other juniors and in B & C grade, although some very entertaining netball was played with some high scoring seen. A grade went into the game with a point to prove after feeling they should have got the points in their first round meeting with Moe. It was going to be difficult with 3 players unavailable due to illness and work commitments, but we soon had a 10 goal lead. GS Sarah McCahon received a heavy knock and was carried from the court in the 3rd term, which unsettled the Leongatha girls and Moe pounced, taking the lead late in the game. Through sheer will power – and talent – our girls hit back to take a very satisfying one goal victory. What a way to celebrate the 250th game of netball legend, Kate McCarthy. Well done Kate.
Football. We took both the senior games and Moe won the underage games comfortably. The seniors went into the game with quite a number of players out injured, but this just gives others the chance to step up, which they did. We had 15 players in the team that have come up through our junior system. Moe were always going to be hard to beat, particularly with coach Burgiel back in action and kicking goals. We took the early lead and got out to a 49 point lead by half time, before possibly relaxing a bit and seeing Moe outscore us in the second half. A full 4 quarter effort will be required this week to defeat Traralgon who are only one position ahead of us. Nick Nagel again enjoyed the supply of the footy from his teammates and rewarded them with another 6 goals. The reserves, like A grade netball, also had a point to prove to the Moe side, which they managed to do very well with an easy 11 goal victory. Moe have developed some quality under age teams and showed us that we have a lot of work to do to help develop our own junior teams. The club is aware of this and we are already looking at ways to improve our junior structure and to support and foster our players. We are still very proud of the efforts of our lads this year.
LJFC All5 LJFC teams made the finals this year. The U14s have gone through to the grandfinal with the U10s and 12s both playing this Sunday in the preliminary final at Hill End. The grandfinal will be at Newborough on Sunday 31st August. Senior players are invited to training to help out with the boys in the lead up to the GF.

Social Club. The Player’s Review last Saturday was an amazing night, with heaps of effort going into many of the acts. The footy show skit was so good that we could run an entire evening on it alone next year. Well done to Rhett Kelly for organizing the night. This Saturday night there will be a DJ at the rooms later in the evening after the Traralgon game. The vote count will be on Friday evening 29th August and the presentation night is on Friday 12th September, both at the grandstand social rooms. Meals available at the vote count evening. Check out the LFNC website, Facebook and TeamApp for further details.
Victory Through Harmony.
