The trip to Morwell to take on the powerful Morwell sides in both Seniors footy and A grade netball was a case of so close, but just not quite there on the day. In both games we were sitting 7th on the ladder playing against the top of the ladder netball side and 2nd on ladder footy side.
The netball was even for the whole day up by one at half time and remaining tight right through to the end with Morwell just holding on to win by 2. This effectively ends our chances of playing finals, but it was a very high quality game once again which only strengthened the Gippsland League’s claim of being the strongest and most even league in Gippsland. The senior football was heartbreaking. Not too many gave us any chance to even get close to Morwell, but that is not the way it played out. The scores were locked at 2.2-14 each at quarter time, and then Morwell took a 5 point lead into the long break. The Parrots came out strong in the third kicking 5 goals to Morwell’s 2 and Leongatha held a handy 14 point lead at ¾ time. It took an 8 goal last quarter by Morwell to haul in the deficit with Morwell in the end taking the game by 16 points. Nick Nagel kicked another 4 goals to move to outright 3rd on the league tally and is only 3 goals off 50 for the season.
Other Footy The reserves and U18s were outplayed, but the foggy conditions must have suited our U16s who played a great game – at least we think they did, but couldn’t see much of it for the fog – and we had a 3 goal win over Morwell.
Other Netball The U15s and U17s both had good wins but Morwell were too strong in the other grades. B Grade was a high quality and high scoring game.

This week. Two games remaining, both at home. This week is against the Moe FNC. The Seniors footy will be out to finish the year strong and if they can take last week’s form in, we should be able to get the points. A grade netball can still have a say in who makes the finals and they will be determined to prove they are the better side after their previous meeting with Moe. In the Reserves footy Leongatha will move above Moe on the ladder if they can post a win. Moe have been the big improvers in all the netball and the junior footy and Leongatha will go in as the underdogs in those games.
Social Club. The Comedy night was a great night for those who attended. Congrats to the LJFC parents for making the effort, a very funny evening indeed. Remember the players review is on after the game against Moe. Hopefully the costumes are done and the acts have been rehearsed and ready to go. Get along to this night that traditionally goes off very well. Stay tuned for vote count day details which will be posted on the LFNC website, Facebook and TeamApp.
Victory Through Harmony.
