Last week we travelled to Traralgon and the threatening rain held off, allowing for some good contests and crowd viewing for the large Leongatha contingent. The Senior footy side had an important win to make sure we stayed in touch with the 5 and it was pleasing for the group to again respond strongly when behind at ¼ time, and then again when challenged in the last ¼. It was a tough match in which the team showed that working together, Glenn’s structures can stand up to strong opposition challenges. Best: Bairs Hotel – Nick Tuckett. Evans Fuel – Joel Renden. Spokes Fresh Meat and Fish – Tom Marriott. Nathan Lynch, Nick Nagel & James Parry. The reserves played some of their best footy for the year in Pistol’s 300th club game, but Traralgon were too strong in the 1st quarter with the Parrots matching it for the remaining 3. Pistols diving mark late in the game was a highlight that was caught so well on film by Mark Drury. The kick looks okay in the photos as well. Check these and other photos of footy and netball from every round on the LFNC website. Congratulations on your 300 club games Pistol. You are entering a very select group along with a well deserved life membership at the presentation night in September. Awards: McCartins Hotel – Grant Fleming. Darcy’s - Lochie Dumont. Evans Fuel – Mark Borschman. N. Phelan B. Geitz and S. Embry. The U18s: Corals Fish n Chips – Matt Borschman. Bakers Delight – Blake Moscript. McDonalds - Jai Van Dyk & Mitch Dennison. M. Olden & F. Kelly. U16s: Presidents Award - Louis Riseley. Hair Bairs – Tim Sauvarin. CSC Snackbar – Kyle Cooper. McDonalds - Nathan Trotto. Harrison McGannon & Anthony Argento.
Netball. The netballers all went down to the strong Traralgon sides. A and B grade both played patches of quality netball and challenged early but were worn down by their opposition. Awards: Rusty Windmill – Claire Fitzgerald. RSL – Laura Higgins. B Grade: Rusty Windmill – Nicola Marriott. Darcy’s – Jaclyn Smith. C Grade: Sportsfirst – Abby Bolge. Rusty Windmill – Melinda McLennan. U17: Leongatha Skin Therapy – Lisa Clark. Bakers Delight – Georgia Riseley. U15. Bakers Delight – Macey Davidson. Excessorise – Sara Riseley. Our mighty U13s almost kept the run of drawn games going but went down by just one goal. Bakers Delight – Ella Lyon. Nagels Pharmacy – Elizabeth Harms.
Auction Players. Nick Nagel, Grant Fleming, Claire Fitzgerald, Nicola Marriott and Melinda McLennan.
We now enter the 2nd half of the season with no team in footy or netball currently in the top 5. The senior footy and B grade are the best placed with Reserves, A & C still having some chance, but none can afford to drop this weekend’s games on the long road trip to Bairnsdale, the Reserves having the week off. The senior footy has a great challenge over the next month as we take on the challenge against 4 of the current top 5 sides. This provides the team with a great opportunity to test themselves and continue to refine the plan and structures against teams likely to be playing finals.
